Week 6: Behind the Build

It is hard to believe we are already in Week 6 of the Semester! University life is in full swing with lectures, coursework, and midterms keeping us all busy. Between deadlines, revision sessions, and the occasional much needed coffee break, the team has been balancing the demands of student life with the excitement of developing our new car.

Despite the busy academic calendar, there's plenty happening behind the scenes; from working collaboratively across our different departments to continuing to develop our plans for the season ahead, the team is making the most of every opportunity to learn, innovate and push forward. As we settle further into the semester, we're excited to share what we’ve been working on, celebrate the progress we're making and give you a glimpse into the life of being an Edinburgh Formula Student team member!

Our welcome week was kicked off with an introductory talk, giving everyone an insight into who we are, what we do and the exciting projects we have planned for the year ahead. It was a great chance for new members to meet the team and to get a feel for what being part of Formula Student is all about. The introductions continued with a potluck hosted at our Sub-Team leaders flats, where members came together to share food and get to know each other. With everyone bringing something to the table, it was a lovely way to strengthen the community that makes our team. We rounded off the celebrations with a social at The Pear Tree, one of our valued sponsors. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet more of the team and start the semester off on a high!

On Sunday, members of Edinburgh Formula Student headed to pear tree to catch the action from the United States Grand Prix weekend! This race saw Kimi Antonelli make headlines with 365 points, putting the 20-year-old on the brink of becoming Formula 1's youngest ever World Champion! With every point counting, the fight for the podium continues to intensify.

This week’s technical Tuesday’s presentations kicked off with our Technical Director, Paul Wang, who explored the importance of tyre performance, suspension movement and ride height in Formula Student. A key focus was how suspension geometry, particularly camber and toe angles, affects tyre contact with the track and overall grip. It was a great insight into how even small design decisions can have a significant impact on the cars overall performance.

A big thank you to our sponsors and supporters for being part of our journey. Your continued support plays an important role in helping us turn our ideas into reality, and we look forward to sharing more updates throughout the year.
