Statics

The Statics team is a creative, presentation-based group that explores the business and practical applications of both driverless and traditional vehicle technologies. Throughout the year, the team analyses existing business models, develops a comprehensive business plan, and refines presentation skills in preparation for the Business Plan Presentation event at Formula Student UK in Silverstone.

Members gain valuable insight into the evolving driverless vehicle industry while developing research, communication, and strategic thinking skills that are beneficial both academically and professionally.

  • The Entrepreneurship team is responsible for the researching, designing and delivering that goes into making and presenting Business Plan Presentations every year at Silverstone for FSUK. The Business Plan Presentations are Dragons Den style pitches, showcased in front of a panel of industry professionals at the final competition.

  • The Ethics and Legislation subteam works diligently across the whole Statics Department. We thoroughly review legal issues of the BPP ideas, as well as supporting the RWAI by investigating safety issues and conducting country-based research. We will also be developing a research paper for this year, researching the ethical and legal issues of autonomous vehicles.

  • Technology Research evaluates the real-world challenges surrounding autonomous vehicles, specifically how the tehcnical components interact with their surrounding environments. We also oversee an in-depth case study looking at our understanding of the market, including the future of autonomous vehicles in for example, motorsports.

  • The Cost and Scalability team is responsible for making the Bill of Materials, which assesses the car as a complete system. We break down the entirety of the costs, looking at the vehicle holistically. We evaluate all possible costs, from individual fasteners to manufacturing processes. Additionally, we quantify its environmental impact by looking at the carbon footprint of the car.

The Statics team has grown significantly since its inception, continually developing its approach to the business and strategic aspects of Formula Student. The team focuses on exploring the commercial potential of driverless and traditional vehicle technologies through market research, business model development, and presentation design.

Members combine creativity with analytical thinking to produce a professional business plan and pitch, presented annually at Formula Student UK in Silverstone. The Statics team welcomes students from all disciplines who are interested in business, innovation, and communication, providing valuable experience in real-world project development and industry engagement.
